Roy Parker, a project manager at Topaz Publications Inc. was recently appointed to the advisory board for the Welding Technology program at Greenville Technical College. Topaz Publications, working with industry experts, developed the welding textbooks used in the program, under contract to the National Center for Construction Education and Research.

Celebrating its 20th year in business, Topaz Publications was started by Thomas P. Burke in February of 1989 as a technical writing and courseware development service. In 1992, Mr. Burke acquired a company that specialized in graphic design and desktop publishing to institute the one-stop service capability that has been the company’s hallmark ever since.

Topaz was recently awarded more than $100,000 by Prentice Hall to develop video, lab manuals, lesson plans, and PowerPoint presentations to augment their web-based training programs for electricians and HVAC technicians.

The National Center for Construction Education and Research has awarded Topaz Publications a $450,000 contract to prepare a major revision to the textbooks for its Fire Alarm, Security, and Telecommunications Technician training program. This project will span a two-year period, beginning early in 2009.

Topaz Publications introduces new training management service called the Virtual Training Department. This service is aimed at small to medium manufacturing firms that need to provide training for skill workers, but are unable to support a dedicated training department.
